Endorsements and testimonials are effective elements for a book. They are simply a couple of sentences from people who have read your book and have liked it. They sometimes highlight the most beneficial chapters, or explain how the book has helped them.
Gaining endorsements from high-profile people can be difficult, especially as these types of people receive hundreds of proposals a day and simply lack the time to read it let alone write a testimonial for you. When I wrote my third book, 'Secrets of Young Achievers Exposed!' I got one of the worlds greatest ever swimmers Ian Thorpe, to write my foreword. His agent gets about 50 proposals a day for Ian to do things, so instead of competing with his agent, I decided to approach his charity instead.
I went to the manger of Ian Thorpe's charity and said, "I'd like Ian Thorpe to write the foreword for my book, or if he likes I'm willing to write it for him and send it for his approval. In exchange I am willing to donate some of the book's profits to your charity and publish the charity's details in the book.” So instead of approaching Thorpe through conventional means, I found another connection and approached the challenge from a new angle.
Endorsements are valuable information and should be placed on the front or back cover, or in the first few pages of your book. When approaching high-profile people it is highly recommended that you don't chose the obvious path, but instead another way that you can make contact for a more successful outcome.
