Book Titles That Grab You By The Balls (eye balls that is)
Every month, thousands of books are introduced to the marketplace, swamping bookshelves with numerous titles about all types of subjects. This overwhelming number of titles has created a competitive environment where it's now important to have a great jacket with an even greater title. So in conjunction with a great book, authors also need to have titles that grab attention. There are various ways to do this by using particular styles of titles.
Short and sweet
Short titles are normally one or two words, however, they are followed by a very descriptive sub-title. The key to effectively using a short title is to also include a fantastic sub-title that explains what your book is about. For example, 'Wombat Selling - How to Sell by Word of Mouth.'
Long and enough
Long titles say everything that needs to be said in a title, so no sub-titles are required. For example, 'How to Get a New Business in 90 Days or Less and Keep it Forever!'
Shocking!
Shock titles grab your attention. They're the 'What the…' factor where you can't walk past a book without stopping to check it out. For example, 'If You Want to Lose Weight, Eat Chocolate and Drink Beer' or 'How to Buy a Piece of Real Estate for Less than a Cup of Coffee.'
Metaphors with meanings
Metaphor titles often use an analogy to describe the book. They are similar to a short title in that they require a detailed sub-title for further explanation. For example, 'Eat That Frog: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time.' So this is a book about time management. 'Eat That Frog' does not make sense, however, it makes sense when you add a sub-title.
Twisty Titles
Common sayings with a twist are titles where familiar titles have been slightly altered. For example, 'Girls Just Wanna Have Funds' or 'The Greatest Snow on Earth'.
In addition to these titles there are also series titles like 'The Dummies Guide', all of which add more appeal to book titles.
